GREENSBURG, Ind. – The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office reports that an inmate suffered a medical emergency on Saturday while he was incarcerated at the Decatur County Detention Center. Deputies discovered a male inmate unconscious in his cell. Life-saving techniques were administered until paramedics arrived.
The man was transported to Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, where he later died. He was identified as Shain Coffey, 32, of North Vernon.
Decatur County Sheriff Dave Durant says Indiana State Police detectives are assisting with the investigation. More information will be forthcoming when the inquiry is complete.
