LOUISVILLE – An Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy remains in critical condition after being shot multiple times in the early morning hours of January 3.
Deputy Zac Andry had stopped just before 1 a.m. to help with what appeared to be a disabled vehicle at US Highway 150 and State Road 56 in Orange County. While interacting with the driver, Austin Schepers, Andry was shot by Schepers four times, including once in the head.
Schepers fled from the scene. After an extensive manhunt, the shooter was located in Louisville on the evening of January 4 where he was shot and killed by law enforcement during an encounter.
Deputy Andry continues to be listed in critical but stable condition in intensive care at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville. He remains under sedation and is being assisted with the use of a ventilator. Doctors and specialists remain optimistic as he fights to recover.
Family members are grateful for the support they have received and continue to ask the community for their positive thoughts and well wishes for Andry.
