VERNON, Ind. — After years of anticipation the Town of Vernon finally has visible progress on the Next Level Trails project by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Vernon was awarded a grant for the project in 2019. COVID-19 among other delays inhibited its start, but the Town Council and Trail Committee persevered.
This trail will directly connect the Muscatatuck County Park to Vernon and run along the river, up Jackson and Montgomery Streets to the Vernon Gym. There will be a river overlook behind the gym. It will cross the edge of Muscatatuck United’s soccer complex, down Pike Street to the Vernon Courthouse, and then to Commons Park.
At the Commons, there will also be a restroom facility.
“I am proud to have this project take place under my watch,” said Mayor Wayne Zamora. “This will be a great recreational addition to the town, the county, and the overall region.”
