SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD), on Thursday, released the suspect’s name in the burglary case that occurred at Anderson’s Fertilizer Plant on Monday, August 12. Jacob Cockerham, 38, of Seymour, was arrested on Wednesday for multiple counts of burglary and theft.
Officers and investigators responded Monday to Anderson’s Fertilizer Plant, at 101 Agrico Lane in Seymour, about a possible burglary. When SPD arrived, they were told that wire, battery-powered tools, brass fittings, and other miscellaneous items were missing.
Law enforcement also discovered property damage. Investigators processed the crime scene and recovered numerous items that contained evidentiary value.
Later in the day, investigators received information regarding a suspect. Investigators went to the suspect’s home and allegedly observed items from the burglary in plain view. They obtained a Jackson Superior Court 2 Search Warrant for the residence. During a search, detectives supposedly found several items that were taken in the burglary.
On Wednesday, investigators located Cockerham near his residence and took him into custody. During an interview, the suspect reportedly admitted to committing the burglary. Cockerham was arrested for two counts of burglary (Level 5 felonies) and two counts of theft (Level 6 felonies). He allegedly admitted to going to the location on two separate occasions.
On Thursday, investigators obtained a Jackson Superior Court 2 search warrant to search the suspect’s vehicle. During that search, they say they found more theft-related evidence.
