NORTH VERNON, Ind, — The Jennings County Health Department (JCHD) is warning residents about a virus being spread by mosquitos.
According to the JCHD, there has been a mosquito testing positive for West Nile, a single-stranded RNA virus that causes West Nile fever. The symptoms of severe infection (West Nile encephalitis or meningitis) can include headache, high fever, neck stiffness, muscle weakness, stupor, disorientation, tremors, seizures, paralysis, and coma.
JCHD is reminding everyone to take precautions and empty all standing water and around your home and property, use repellent or wear long sleeves and pants while being outside in the evening.
They have bug wipes, while supplies last, at the health department (245 Norris Avenue) if anyone would like to stop by Monday thru Friday.
