NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) attempted a traffic stop on a car traveling west on US 50 last Monday night. After the deputy activated his emergency red and blue lights and siren, he said the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.
The car ran a red light at State Road 7 and US 50 and continued north. The female driver soon pulled into a residence, which was later determined to be her home. Unfortunately for her, sliding into her driveway didn’t mean she was “safe at home” as it does in baseball.
She was taken into custody without further incident and allegedly found to be under the influence of alcohol. The suspect, identified as Whitney Duffer, 36, North Vernon, was subsequently arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (BAC over 0.15) and Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle.
The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that failure to pull to the right and stop during a traffic stop will always result in additional felony charges.
