INDIANAPOLIS – Twenty-one newly appointed troopers graduated from the 85th Indiana State Police Academy on July 18. Six of those troopers, including two local men, are being assigned to the Indiana State Police Indianapolis Post.
Trooper Jacob Day is from Seymour and after graduating from Columbus Christian School he studied at IUPUI. Trooper Aden Walters is from Greenwood and graduated from Mooresville High School before joining the U.S. Navy.
All six now begin a three-month field training period riding with veteran troopers. The purpose of field training is to put the training received during the formal academy into practical application. Upon successful completion, each trooper will be assigned a state police patrol vehicle and begin solo patrol.
These troopers have already completed over 1,100 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques and hands-on and scenario-based training at the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy.
The Indianapolis District includes Marion, Hamilton, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, Hendricks, and Boone Counties. Information on becoming an Indiana State Trooper can be found at IndianaTrooper.com.
