SOUTH-CENTRAL Ind. – Officials at the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis say this week will bring very hot, humid, and dangerous conditions to central and southern Indiana, including Bartholomew, Johnson, Jackson, Jennings, Brown, Shelby, and Decatur Counties.
The heat and humidity is expected to last through the upcoming weekend. Residents can expect daily high temperatures in the low-to-mid 90s with the heat index approaching 100 degrees during the afternoon hours.
Although no specific Heat Watches or Heat Warnings have been issued for central and southern Indiana, NWS authorities warn that the conditions may be hazardous for sensitive and vulnerable populations.
Precautions to take include drinking fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, keeping out of the sun, and checking up on relatives and neighbors. While outside, residents should wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or late evening.
