NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) initiated a stop on a vehicle after observing traffic infractions early Thursday morning. During the 1 a.m. pullover, deputies recognized the operator as having an active Jennings County arrest warrant.
As they tried to make contact with the driver, Nicholas Barlow, 28, of North Vernon, he supposedly refused to follow orders, rolled up his window, and locked the doors.
When backup deputies arrived, the suspect was removed from the vehicle while reportedly resisting. He allegedly struck one of the deputies during this altercation, causing his eyeglasses to break.
Barlow was taken into custody and booked into Jennings County Jail on the following charges:
- Battery on a public safety official- Level 5 Felony
- Resisting law enforcement – Level A Misdemeanor
- Criminal mischief – Level C Misdemeanor
- Jennings County warrant for dealing in a narcotic drug (heroin) – Level 5 Felony
- Jennings County warrant for possession of a narcotic drug – Level 6 Felony
The North Vernon Police Department also assisted at the scene of the incident.
