INDIANAPOLIS — Bartholomew County Emergency Management (BCEM) said the National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting significant amounts of rain with a chance for flooding on Friday.
The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has placed the southern two-thirds of the state under a slight risk for excessive precipitation, and the northern one-third of the state under a marginal risk. Widespread rainfall measuring 2-3 inches is expected in the slight risk area, while 1-2 inches are possible in the marginal risk region.
Flash flooding is possible under heavier thunderstorm activity. NWS has issued a Flood Watch for much of the state. Across southern Indiana near the Ohio River, threats of isolated damaging wind gusts or an isolated tornado also exist.
The timing for the rainfall and flooding potential is from 1 a.m. on Friday through 1 a.m. on Saturday.
A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 10 p.m. on Friday, with northeast winds from 20 to 30 mph expected. Gusts could be up to 45 mph, according to BCEM.
