COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested two people on multiple charges after a vehicle pursuit on Thursday at around 2:40 p.m.
Officers pulled over a car that was apparently connected to a recent shoplifting incident. When law enforcement approached the vehicle, the driver, Christopher A. Riddle, 43, of Indianapolis, sped away, per CPD’s Lt. Matt Harris.
A chase ensued through east Columbus. Accompanied by his passenger, Rachel A. Cardoso-Nelson, 33, of Columbus, Riddle disregarded stop signs and drove through yards.
The vehicle eventually stopped in the backyard of a house in the 1900 block of Wallace Avenue. The pair exited and tried to flee from officers on foot, however, both were apprehended moments later.
During a search of the suspects’ car, the officers allegedly found separately packaged bags of methamphetamine, along with syringes, marijuana, and digital scales. Officers say they also recovered suspected stolen merchandise from the shoplifting incident.
The duo was taken into custody and transported to Bartholomew County Jail.
Riddle was charged with resisting law enforcement, a Marion County warrant, possession of a syringe, dealing in meth, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of meth, and reckless driving.
Cardoso-Nelson was booked for theft, resisting law enforcement, possession of a syringe, dealing in meth, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of meth.
