COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) fought two early morning fires within half a mile of each other on Saturday. Both remain under investigation.
Firefighters responded to 1812 Newton St. at approximately 3:55 a.m. after a report of a residential fire. CFD arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the residence. Crews entered the house and found an extensive blaze which was quickly extinguished. Damages to the home are estimated at $95,000.
At around 4:05 a.m., another fire was reported at 903 19th St. This time it was a detached garage. When firefighters got there they found the building heavily involved in flames. The heat from the blaze caused damage to the home’s vinyl siding and the garage was a total loss. Damages are estimated at $30,000.
No injuries were reported in either of the incidents.
