FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday that it had officially charged Linda Bermann, 35, of Greenwood, with attempted murder.
The charge stems from independent calls from two juveniles who reported Bermann inside their home and armed with a firearm on Monday at around 9 p.m. According to the probable cause affidavit, Bermann allegedly loaded a rifle, went into the room of one of the juveniles, pointed the gun, and pulled the trigger. The gun reportedly jammed and did not fire. Bermann then supposedly put the weapon on the ground and waited for police to arrive. She was taken into custody without incident and no one was injured.
Police seized the rifle and a pistol from the home that evening. Based on statements made by Bermann to police during questioning, the state also filed paperwork with the court seeking to have her firearm rights restricted under Indiana’s Red Flag law.
“I take the Second Amendment rights of the citizens of Johnson County very seriously,” said Johnson County Prosecutor Joe Villanueva. “However, I will not hesitate to seek a hearing to suspend those rights if there is evidence to show that they are a danger to themselves or the community.”
