COLUMBUS, Ind. – A local man was uninjured after he supposedly lost control of his car, struck a tree, and crashed into the pond at Mill Race Park on Monday night.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) responded to the accident at about 8:40 p.m. and found a vehicle in the pond in the middle of the park. The driver, Christian Sconce, 20, of Columbus, told officers that the brakes quit working on the car prior to the crash.
CPD says a witness reported seeing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the park before it ran off of the road, struck a tree, and ultimately crashed into the pond.
The Bartholomew County Dive Team was activated and assisted with the investigation and removal of the vehicle from the water.
