COLUMBUS, Ind. – Heritage Fund is now seeking nominations for two annual awards established by the estate of longtime Columbus residents Donald and Catherine Jurgemeyer to honor noteworthy heroes and projects in the community.
The Donald W. and Catherine G. Jurgemeyer Community Hero Award recognizes and celebrates the contributions of everyday local heroes who have performed life-saving measures, come to the aid of another, or contributed to the safety, security, and resiliency of the community. A nominee must be either a professional or a volunteer serving in Bartholomew County as a law enforcement official, firefighter, first responder, or in the medical/healthcare field. A $5,000 award is achieved.
The Donald W. and Catherine G. Jurgemeyer Community Leadership Project of the Year Award promotes and recognizes an organization or project in the community that exemplifies the Columbus community leadership values while addressing a pressing need or opportunity to improve the quality of life in Bartholomew County. Nominees will be nonprofit organizations, volunteer groups, or coalitions serving Bartholomew County. A $10,000 award is presented to the winning organization.
The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on April 25. Required nomination information can be found in the “Awards” section of heritagefundbc.org and should be emailed to info@heritagefundbc.org or dropped off at Heritage Fund, 538 Franklin St., in Columbus.
Donald Jurgemeyer was senior vice president of the trust department of Irwin Union Bank for 12 years and practiced law in his Columbus firm for 29 years.
