EDINBURGH, Ind. – The Edinburgh Community School Corporation released a statement last week to parents, school staff, and the Edinburgh Community regarding what happened during the recent threat at East Side Elementary School.
On Friday, March 7, someone called and said they had a gun and were hiding inside the school waiting to shoot people. They also mentioned bombs inside the building. Officials called 9-1-1 and the school was put on lockdown, Law enforcement arrived within two minutes.
Edinburgh Police searched but found no person, gun, or suspicious devices. Once the “all-clear” was given, the students were transferred to Edinburgh High School.
With the assistance of multiple agencies, the Edinburgh Police Department has determined that the caller was not from Edinburgh, Johnson County, or the state of Indiana, but from somewhere outside the United States.
Edinburgh Community School Corporation Superintendent James Halik thanked the school staff, law enforcement, and emergency personnel who helped ensure the safety of the students.
