COLUMBUS, Ind. – With the support of a Mental Health Initiative grant from the Center for Congregations, First Presbyterian Church in Columbus is offering adult and youth support groups, plus a series of speakers, educational opportunities, and workshops to improve access to mental health support locally and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health care.
The Church’s program kicks off this weekend, January 18 and 19, with Dr. Marcus Carlson, a nationally recognized speaker on mental health and the church.
On Saturday, Carlson will provide a free public seminar touching on stigma in the church and other practical advice on recognizing and addressing mental health issues. The seminar is at the church from 1 to 4 p.m. with refreshments provided. Carlson will deliver the sermon on Sunday at the 9:30 a.m. service.
First Presbyterian Church’s group program, “Heads Up,” helps community members needing access to mental health support or who want to learn more about mental health resources and training.
