GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) responded to 65 Winterwood Dr. for a water rescue on Friday, just after 5 p.m.
A 50-year-old female entered the partially frozen pond trying to rescue her dog, which had ventured onto the ice. The woman fell through and into the frigid water.
Her adult daughter then attempted to rescue her mother but she also fell through the ice. Both victims were approximately 30 to 40 feet from the shore.
While emergency agencies were en route, the two women reached the edge of the water with the help of another neighbor, who had thrown a rope onto the ice and pulled them closer to safety.
Greenwood Police Department officers arrived and, along with the neighbor, assisted both women out of the water and into an ambulance. The dog was also rescued and was unharmed. The two women were believed to have been in the water for approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
White River Township EMS transported both victims to local hospitals in stable condition.
