SOUTH-CENTRAL, Ind. – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis has issued a Winter Storm Watch for most of Indiana, including Bartholomew, Johnson, Jackson, Jennings, Shelby, Decatur, Morgan, and Brown Counties in south-central Indiana. The Winter Storm Watch is effective from Sunday at 7 a.m. to Monday at 7 a.m.
Winter precipitation of all varieties is expected during the weather event. The south-central Indiana area has a high probability of six inches of snow or more, with the potential for significant accumulations of sleet and freezing rain across southern portions of central Indiana.
Single-digit wind chills are forecast for this weekend into next week. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages.
NWS says people should consider delaying all travel. If you must travel, drive with extreme caution.
Motorists are also advised to pack their car with a winter storm kit, including tire chains, booster cables, a flashlight, a shovel, blankets, extra clothing, water, a first aid kit, and anything else to help them survive if they become stranded.
