COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has announced the acquisition of a mobile command center. The vehicle was purchased from the Columbus Township Fire Department and has been renovated to serve multiple city and county agencies.
While this unit will be used primarily as a mobile command center for law enforcement, it will also serve as a secondary emergency operations/dispatch center, and a community engagement vehicle for special events.
The funding for the vehicle and its renovation was made possible through an approved commissary and drug seizure funds obtained from the DEA task force as a result of its joint drug enforcement efforts with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. No county budget monies were requested, resulting in no cost to county taxpayers.
The Sheriff’s Office thanks Cummins for their collaboration in obtaining a generator. BCSO also appreciates those public safety agencies that have supported the project.
Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane said, “I believe this vehicle will be an invaluable resource to the community, whether serving as a command center during critical incidents or as a gathering point during community engagements. We invite the community to attend the Festival of Lights on December 7, where the mobile command center will participate in the parade beginning at 6 p.m.”
