VERSAILLES, Ind. -Multiple first responders responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on U.S. 421, north of Versailles, on Tuesday at around 3 p.m. The accident claimed the lives of two Ripley County men.
The initial investigation by the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post indicates that a dump truck, driven by Nathan M. Vogelsang, 24, of Dillsboro, was southbound on US 421 near County Road 100N. For an unknown reason, Vogelsang lost control and his truck crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound semi, operated by Oleh Hrudnenko, 34, of Buffalo, Illinois.
The vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane.
Vogelsang and a passenger in his vehicle, Landen J. W. Comer, 19, of Osgood, were fatally injured in the crash and were both pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ripley County Coroner’s Office. Hrudnenko sustained minor injuries.
Indiana State Police Investigators and Crash Reconstructionists are continuing the investigation. Toxicology results are pending although there are no initial indications that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
US 421 was closed for approximately five hours for crash investigation and cleanup.
