FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Franklin Police Department (FPD), apprehended a wanted man in the Johnson County Government Annex parking lot on Wednesday morning.
The arrest followed a tense standoff involving Roderick Tyrone Bunnell, 42, of Indianapolis, who was wanted on multiple felony warrants from surrounding counties.
At about 9:40 a.m., deputies were alerted to a white GMC Yukon parked in the north Annex lot, with the suspect seated inside. Deputies, with support from Franklin Police, approached the SUV and issued verbal commands for him to exit, but he supposedly refused to comply.
After several minutes of unsuccessful negotiation, access to the vehicle was gained through the rear hatch, and tear gas was deployed. Bunnell then exited and complied with law enforcement.
He was taken into custody and is now facing the following charges:
- Johnson County – Resisting Law Enforcement
- Delaware County – Warrant for Theft
- Marion County – Warrant for Possession of Cocaine (Level 3 Felony)
Sheriff Duane E. Burgess commended the deputies and FPD for their professionalism and teamwork, saying, “Through the coordinated efforts of our deputies and the Franklin Police Department, we were able to bring this situation to a close without injury and safeguard our community.”
