COLUMBUS, Ind. – First responders from across the Bartholomew County community came together last week for the annual Columbus Police Department Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training.
CIT training provides law enforcement officers with the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively manage situations involving individuals in mental health crises.
The 40-hour course trains officers in de-escalation techniques, how to recognize the signs of mental illness, and how to adjust their response to meet the specific needs of those they encounter.
The training helps in fostering safer, more supportive interactions when responding to those facing mental health challenges.
