GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Greenwood Police Department responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Crescent Drive in Greenwood early Sunday morning after receiving a call of an attempted suicide.
Upon arrival at around 1 a.m., officers discovered a 13-year-old male resident suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics responded and the juvenile victim was transported to Riley Hospital where he was said to be in critical condition.
During the subsequent investigation, Greenwood Detectives determined that five other juveniles were also present at the time of the shooting. All six of the juveniles reportedly were playing with a gun. At one point, one of the juveniles, a 13-year-old Greenwood resident, allegedly pointed the gun at the victim and shot him.
The five juveniles fled the scene and 20 minutes later the suspect called 911 and reported that there was an attempted suicide at the home. The 13-year-old suspect has been arrested on a preliminary charge of attempted murder. He is being held in the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Facility.
This investigation is ongoing and fluid. Greenwood Detectives are working closely with the Johnson County Prosecutors Office which will determine if and what other charges may be filed.
