SEYMOUR, Ind. – A pedestrian who was hit by a car in the 200 block of S. Chestnut Street on Saturday, November 2 at 7:10 a.m., has died.
When the Seymour Police Department (SPD) responded to the scene last weekend, Ronald Jarvis, 87, of Seymour, was found unresponsive in the roadway. Witnesses said the driver had fled. The victim was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Later that evening, officers began investigating, discovered the suspect vehicle in the 300 block of S. Chestnut Street, and impounded it. They tried to question the suspected driver, Omar S. Donald, 54, of Seymour, but he refused to cooperate.
On Tuesday, law enforcement learned that Jarvis had succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect vehicle on Wednesday and collected items of potential evidentiary value.
Friday morning, investigators were granted a search warrant for the suspect’s apartment. They took the alleged hit-and-run driver into custody and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or catastrophic injury (level 4 felony) and driving while suspended (misdemeanor).
While at the residence, SPD reportedly saw methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug-related items in plain view. During a search of the apartment, police supposedly found between 8-10 grams of meth.
Donald will also be arrested for dealing in meth within 500 feet of a school (level 2 felony), possession of meth (level 5 felony), possession of marijuana (misdemeanor), maintaining a common nuisance (level 6 felony), and possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor). The suspect was taken to the Jackson County Jail and processed.
