COLUMBUS, Ind. – This Monday, November 11, is Veterans Day,. It is a day that honors military veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The observance was originated by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. The date marks the anniversary of the end of World War I when hostilities were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. It was first called Armistice Day but changed to Veterans Day in 1954.
Locally, all City of Columbus and Bartholomew County offices will be closed. Trash, recycling, and brush collections will continue to run on schedule.
