COLUMBUS, Ind. – At the request of the Bartholomew County fire chiefs, the Bartholomew County Commissioners signed a countywide Burn Ban on Monday morning.
The ban is now in effect and will remain in place through this Sunday, September 22.
Due to moderate drought conditions, and lack of rain in the forecast, officials anticipate that the ban will be extended next Monday, September 23.
The commissioners will give an update at that time.
Effective immediately, the following activities are prohibited in Bartholomew County:
- campfires and other recreational fires
- open burning of any kind using conventional fuel such as wood/combustible matter, except for grills fueled by charcoal briquettes or propane
- the burning of debris, such as timber or vegetation, including such debris that results from building construction activities
- the use of burn barrels for any open burning at residential structures
Authorities added that charcoal from permitted grills should not be removed from the grills until the charcoal has been thoroughly extinguished.
