COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office says a 17-year-old from Columbus died in a motor vehicle accident on Sunday morning on County Road 400N, near the “Tinkey Bridge,” east of US 31.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) asked the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office to come to the scene. CPD had been called at 1:19 a.m. after a report of a vehicle fire. When officers arrived, they found a crashed vehicle and a body.
Deputy Coroner Charlie Deweese pronounced Thomas Miguel De La Cruz dead at the scene from massive traumatic injuries sustained in the accident. The family has been notified.
CPD and the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the crash.
