COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday afternoon at E. County Road 100S and S. County Road 525E.
Upon arrival just after 4 p.m., deputies located a car and a pickup truck with extensive damage. The two occupants of the car and the single occupant of the pickup were trapped inside their vehicles. Personnel from several responding fire departments extricated the occupants from the vehicles.
The car’s driver, Tonya Whiteside, 51, of Greensburg, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, Tyler Myers, 21, of Bedford, and the passenger in the car, Christopher Harris, 47, of Greensburg, had significant injuries and were helicoptered to IU Health Methodist Hospital.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the car disregarded a stop sign at the intersection resulting in the collision. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be a factor in the incident at this point in the investigation.
This investigation is ongoing by the Bartholomew County Accident Reconstruction Team.
