EDINBURGH, Ind. – Edinburgh Fire and Rescue Chief Lollar and Assistant Chief Routier traveled to Fire Service Inc. in St. John, on Wednesday to discuss details and upfitting the department’s new engine.
The new apparatus will replace the present-day fire engine, which will be 30 years old in a few months. Current Engine 41, a 1995 Pierce Saber, will move to reserve status.
The new Engine 41 will carry 1000 gallons of water and have a 1500-gallon-per-minute pump. Its low hose bed will make deploying the hose much easier and safer. The side mount pump panel will allow for a shorter wheelbase apparatus which is safer to maneuver en route to emergencies. High-side compartments on both sides of the apparatus will allow firefighters to carry more life-saving equipment and keep things better organized.
Most importantly, it will be equipped with many modern safety features such as airbags and seat belt warning lights to protect fire crews while responding to emergencies.
Edinburgh Fire and Rescue officials said, “Thank you to our Edinburgh Town Council members for your continued support as we strive to serve our community.”
