INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced this week that the May unemployment rates for south-central Indiana counties went up compared to the previous month.
For Bartholomew County, the May rate was 3.5%, up from April’s 2.9%. The county reported 42,039 employed residents out of a 43,544-person labor force.
Johnson County’s May rate was 3.3%, an increase from the April number of 2.8%. Employed workers totaled 85,229 from a possible 88,113.
Jackson County recorded a 3.4% May unemployment rate, above the 2.8% rate it registered last month. The county reported 21,691 employed residents out of a 22,458-person labor force.
The Jennings County rate for May was 3.6%, compared to 3.4% in April. There were 13,802 workers out of a possible 13,572.
Indiana state officials at DWD also announced that the overall Hoosier unemployment rate for May was 3.7%, increasing from 3,6% in April.
