COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Council for Youth Development (CYD) announced Friday that 88 community members were certified as Youth Mental Health First Aiders in 2023.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help a child or adolescent experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge, or who might be in crisis.
The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a five-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, psychosis disorders, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.
Register here for the upcoming Youth Mental Health First Aid Session scheduled for February 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If you are interested in becoming certified through one of their workshops and want to learn more, visit CYDBartholomew.org.
