NEW CASTLE, Ind. – The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 62nd class of inductees for this year, including one who has contributed a lot to Franklin.
Gene White is one of 17 people who will be inducted on March 20, 2024. White was a part of the Milan team that won the state championship in 1954, later to be immortalized in the movie Hoosiers.
After high school, White played at Franklin College where he was All-Conference in the 1957 and 1958 seasons.
In 1985, he returned to Franklin as a math teacher and assistant girls basketball coach at Franklin Community High School until 1987.
White coached women’s basketball at Franklin College in two stints from 1987-1994 and 1999-2000.
A three-time Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, White holds the second most wins in Franklin women’s basketball history with 158.
