COLUMBUS, Ind. – Deputies with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to a fatal accident at the intersection of South County Road 525E and East County Road 100S on Wednesday.
Investigators believe a car traveling north on C.R. 525E, driven by Ayden Pittman, 19, of North Vernon, failed to yield the right of way to a westbound SUV. Katelyn Tullis, 20, of Madison, was pronounced dead from traumatic neck and chest injuries at the scene by Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting
BCSO says two passengers inside the SUV, Heather Baker, 52, of Columbus, and Sydney Dietrich, 23, of Columbus, suffered minor injuries. Both were treated at Columbus Regional Health.
Pittman suffered significant injuries to his back and abdominal area and was flown by Lifeline to IU Health Methodist Hospital.
The collision is being investigated by the Bartholomew County Accident Reconstruction Team, per BCSO’s Sgt. Dane Duke.
