HAYDEN, Ind. – In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 11, Jennings County Sheriff’s Office detectives received information regarding a wanted violent felon in the Hayden area, between Seymour and North Vernon.
The suspect, Brian L. Weber, had three current warrants with nationwide extradition: An Indiana parole re-take warrant for dealing cocaine; a Decatur County warrant for failure to appear for a habitual offender sentencing hearing; and, a Decatur County warrant for burglary while armed with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury. Weber also had a lengthy criminal history involving drug and violent crime convictions.
Investigators were provided intelligence that the fugitive had commented that he would not go back to prison and would go down in “a blaze of glory.” As the manhunt began, law enforcement applied for and was granted a search warrant by the Jennings County Circuit Court for a Hayden residence where the suspect had been living.
Jennings County SWAT was activated. Seymour Police Department SWAT members, the Indiana State Police, and Indiana DNR all assisted in the operation. The search warrant was executed but authorities say Weber fled on foot across several properties.
After a thorough search of the area, the fugitive was located in a barn about a half mile away. Allegedly, instead of surrendering, the suspect attempted to end his own life. Jennings County K-9 Zobi was deployed and Zobi apprehended him before he could end his life.
Weber was treated for minor injuries and remanded into the custody of the Jennings County Jail.
