INDIANAPOLIS — Rep. Jim Banks (R) has announced his bid to become US Senator in 2024, becoming the first to enter the race for the GOP nomination and seek the seat opened up after Sen. Mike Braun (R) announced his gubernatorial campaign in December.
“I was proud to defend America overseas and today I’m just as proud to fight for our conservative Hoosier values in Congress,” Banks said in a campaign announcement video on his campaign website. “That’s why I’m running for the United States Senate.”
Born in Columbia City, Banks has represented Indiana’s Fort-Wayne-based third House district since 2017 and served as chairman of the Republican Study Committee for the 117th Congress. He is a former chairman of the Whitley County Republican Party and served in the State Senate from 2010 to 2016.
