COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus house suffered $40,000 in damages after an unattended stove ignited into flames on Monday. The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to an early afternoon residential fire at 759 Glendale Dr.
Firefighters arrived at 1 p.m. and found smoke and flames coming from the roof of a single-story home. The owner advised CFD that everyone was out of the residence.
Crews discovered the fire in the kitchen and attacked the blaze near the stove and the overhead ceiling. The fire was quickly brought under control.
The homeowner told investigators that he was heating a food product on the stove and had briefly stepped away. The man attempted to extinguish the fire prior to their arrival but was unsuccessful.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze has been ruled accidental. Damages were isolated to the kitchen area and the roof structure above the kitchen. Smoke damages were also visible throughout the home.
