FRANKLIN, Ind. β After hearing two full days of testimony in the Johnson Circuit Court and then deliberating for about four hours, a jury on Wednesday found Richard M. Huffman, 53, of Greenwood, guilty of the offense of child molesting as a Level 4 felony.
Charges stem from a report made to police in 2019 that the then eight-year-old female victim had been touched inappropriately by Huffman, who was a relative of the adult making the report. During the trial, the jury heard from both the victim and Huffman himself.
Prosecutor Joe Villanueva said, βIn this case, the parties and the court all had an additional hurdle of presenting the trial with multiple witnesses who were hearing impaired. That necessitated the involvement of multiple sign language interpreters being used simultaneously. We are grateful to have been able to deliver justice for our victim.β
Sentencing is set for May 9. Huffman could face 2 to 12 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
