COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested a local woman on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after she was reportedly involved in a wreck and then fled. Officers responded to 10th Street and US 31 at about 1:45 a.m. on Friday, in regards to an accident where both vehicles had left the scene.
The Bartholomew County Sheriffs Office assisted in the pursuit and stopped one of the crashed vehicles on 10th Street. Law enforcement alleges that a passenger in the car, Brittney A. Spears, 23, of Columbus, was actually operating the vehicle when the accident occurred.
CPD administered field sobriety tests and Spears later supposedly submitted a breath test sample of .108%. The suspect was placed under arrest and is facing preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and false informing.
