JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Tuesday accident on US 50 in Nebraska. While on the scene, deputies learned that the driver of the vehicle had fled on foot. As they searched the area, another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed crossed the center line and nearly hit an officer.
The driver allegedly refused to stop, a pursuit ensued, and after another crash, this man also fled on foot. A canine was able to help find the suspect, Weldon Wiley, 44, of Westport, and he was taken into custody.
During the investigation, deputies say that they received information that the vehicle involved in the original crash was reported stolen from Ripley County. Authorities say the second car was stolen by the same man, Wiley, near the scene of the Jennings County accident. The suspect also entered a home without permission asking for a ride, according to law enforcement.
Wiley is facing charges of auto theft, criminal recklessness, resisting by fleeing, residential entry, OWI with endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident.
